Hold the plastic, please!

Support Restaurants in Reducing Waste

Plastic reduction laws vary across Los Angeles County, with over two dozen cities having passed laws to reduce excess plastic and waste from local restaurants, which also helps them save money. We’re working to clarify any confusion and support restaurants and other local businesses with the transition. If you love eating out or ordering in, we need you! Join us as we reach out to restaurants, share info using our Hold the Plastic tip cards, and provide helpful tools to reduce waste and comply with these laws, both in-person and digitally.

We’re sharing these tip cards and reminding restaurants to:

Get Involved

Take part digitally:

  1. Tag your favorite restaurants in our post

  2. DM your favorite restaurants

    • Download digital tip cards here

    • Sample message:
Hi, I’ve been coming here for __ years and it’s one of my favorites! I wanted to share about a few new laws that will help LA eateries save money and reduce waste - like only giving utensils & straws on request and getting rid of foam takeout containers. This website has all the info: reusablela.org/HoldThePlastic

  3. Are you on Yelp? Leave reviews encouraging eateries to comply with the new laws or thanking them for complying. You can also make a note if they have a Yelp “eco-friendly business attribute” like providing reusable tableware, plastic-free packaging, BYO container allowed, and more.

  4. Share with your friends and family in LA and on social media

Take part with printed tip cards:

  1. Get info cards by mail OR pick up

  2. Bring them when you eat out or get takeout

  3. Kindly share and leave the info card or give it to staff. Best practices and tips:

    • Write a personal note on the card (Customer for 7 years, would love to see these updates!)

    • Leave it with your check and mention to your server

    • Leave in suggestion box if they have one

    • Give directly to manager

    • Do it with a friend!
